Dr. Traci Schmalle graduated in 1996 with a bachelor
of science in biology from Creighton University,
in Omaha, Nebraska. She went on to receive her Doctorate
in Optometry from the University of Missouri Saint
Louis College of Optometry in 2001. During her internships
she worked with nationally recognized OMNI Eye Specialists
in Denver, Colorado; the Marion, Illinois Veterans
Administration; vision therapist Claude Valenti,
OD at the Optometric Development Center in San Diego,
California; low vision specialist Ronald Knox, OD
in Saint Louis, Missouri; as well as cornea and contact
lens specialist Jack Yager, OD in Winter Park, Florida.
She has served as Secretary for the Beta Sigma Kappa
National Optometric Honor Society and has been awarded
the William H. Feinbloom Low Vision Award for Excellence.
Dr. Schmalle has participated in numerous health
clinics throughout her community and has traveled
as far as Morelia, Mexico to volunteer her services
to those in need through the Volunteer Optometric
Services to Humanity (VOSH) organization. She is
also actively involved in Project Insight, a program
which provides free glasses and eye care services
to children who otherwise could not afford them.
In 2003 Dr. Schmalle was named Wal-Mart Optical (district
#282) “Doctor of the Year.” During her
free time, Dr. Schmalle enjoys spending time with
her husband and family as well as shopping, reading, swimming, and jogging.
